Back to Basics of Energy Healing

What is intuition?

What if the clear knowing AND the doubt you feel after are part of your intuition? What if a stronger intuition has nothing to do with straining to see more, but rather to work with what you already have...

Whenever I teach Reiki, or the chakras, or energy healing in general, there's one topic everybody wants more of and everybody carries a little fear and confusion around: intuition. It's become one of those blown-up concepts — special, witchy, only for the few. So let's ground it, because the way I understand intuition lets you take a deep breath and relax around it.

Intuition is clear perception: the ability to perceive the world — including its energy — as it is, without distortion. Without making up stories about it, without being pulled into fear or into anything emotional. Just neutral and clear.

Clear perception, ordinary and subtle

That starts with grounded, everyday reality. There's a table here, a chair underneath me, a camera I'm talking into. Seeing that plainly, exactly as it is, is clear perception. And the same faculty extends into the subtle realm — what's going on in another person's energy system, what's moving through the collective, what a work of art is carrying, what a certain plant needs. All of that information is there, because energy is information that vibrates. A plant is communicating what it needs — water, a sunnier spot — and when you pay attention in a way that lets the communication arrive without distortion, without stories, your intuition is at its best.

And every single human being has this. Your intuition is always talking to you — always. Whether you're connected to it or disconnected from it is a whole different question.

The irony of boosting your intuition

Most people try to develop intuition by straining — activating things, pushing to see further, further beyond the veil. Mostly that puts stress on your perceptual system and breeds doubt. It's not wrong; a little reach toward the beyond-ordinary can help. But it helps most when you're deeply grounded and you let the world do the talking — because it is talking, at all times. So boosting your intuition is ironic work: it means becoming more grounded, more healed, more at home in a neutral place. From there, you simply see what is.

Ask a better question

There's an enormous amount of information coming at you at every moment. What I've noticed is that intuition becomes clearest when you ask a specific question and let it narrow your field of perception. If I just look at my plant — groundedly, presently — all its information streams toward me, but none of it is relevant enough to land. If I'm neutral and I ask, "What does this plant really need?" — now the answers arrive: bigger stakes for support, a little more sunlight, a trim, maybe for me to talk to it. The question opens a clear channel of communication by eliminating everything extra.

Two of the best questions you can ask: "What am I not seeing?" and "Where am I identified with things being a certain way?" Denial is the enemy of intuition. It's normal — nope, not looking at that — but every place you refuse to look becomes a distortion in your field. You simply can't see in those areas.

Why intuition is so hard to listen to

Here's what actually happens. The clear perception comes through — and as it comes through, it wakes up your blocks, all the zones in you still operating in distortion. They flood the signal with doubts and fears, so the knowing feels far less clear and neutral than it really was. Your chakras, and the blocks they hold, distort your capacity to see what is. That's why healing work — chakra clearing, Reiki, whatever practice heals you (there's a million) — makes your intuition steadily easier to hear.

And there's a deeper fear underneath. We've all, at some level, been conditioned by our societies to fit in — and intuition lets you see through the veil of that conditioning. Trusting it can mean going against the grain of what everyone around you agrees on, and that is a biologically terrifying thing to do, because it means leaving the tribe. Alone, misunderstood — and in our old tribal consciousness, we might die. My own path with claiming my intuition has been a path of fear and terror; I've explored the witch's wound, and it's real. So don't let the fear stop you, but don't bulldoze it either. Let it move through, let it be witnessed. Ask it what it's contributing: if it's valid, it's valid — and if it's not, you get to let that energy go, and you've cleared the way.

Get into neutrality, do your healing work, and the intuition will come.

That's the whole practice, really. Not seeing further — seeing clearly. The rest arrives on its own.

What's distorting your perception

Blocks are the zones still operating in distortion — the ones that flood a clear knowing with doubt. Meet them properly: what they are, how they form, how they release.
