You've maybe experienced this already: a practitioner tells you, no problem, I can send you energy through time and space — and your brain short-circuits a little. What does that even mean? Wouldn't it be better to be in the same room, so you can actually feel it more? And the answer that comes back is that energy is non-local. There's no space and time when it comes to energy. That's genuinely what we're talking about here.
In the world as you know it every day, it would be strange to suggest you're in multiple places at once, or living multiple lifetimes all at the same time. You're just in one place, at one time. Your physical body is right here, right now — and that stays entirely true. But in the world of energy, the rules are a little different.
Energy doesn't stay in the room
You've probably felt this already: a sense that someone's about to call you, a moment before the phone actually rings. A tingling, a knowing, that someone's about to do something at a certain time — and then they do it, and you feel it. That's a real feature of energy, not a coincidence you're imagining.
I'm no quantum physics expert — I read about it, I'm fascinated by it, and I'm mindful of exactly where the limits of my expertise are. But one of the ideas quantum physics presents is that particles can be entangled: really in two places at once, one spinning one way, the other in a counter-spin, connected regardless of distance. Energetically, we can be connected — and in more than one place — the same way. Since COVID, most of my own work happens online, at a distance, and it's become normal to me. But it's still genuinely astonishing how clearly you can feel what's happening in someone else's energy from far away, simply by connecting with your intention.
Time as vertical, not horizontal
This matters even more when it comes to healing. If a difficulty you experienced as a child was never healed, never energetically transformed, you're still living it in exactly the same way — the outward expression just looks different now. Here's how I make sense of that when I teach it: we usually experience time on a horizontal plane. The past is the past, the present is right now, the future isn't here yet. In the energy world, time is experienced far more vertically.
What that means is your energy system exists, entirely, in the present moment. You at five years old. Your first kiss. Surrounded by your twelve grandchildren at eighty-four. All of it is contained in this one moment, all of it an expression of the way your energy is right now.
You, at five years old. Your first kiss. Surrounded by your twelve grandchildren at eighty-four. All of it is contained in this one present moment.
What that makes possible
What you heal in the present moment is just the energy of this moment — and shifting it starts shifting the energy of all your other moments, your past and your future too. So if there's a childhood difficulty and you heal it now, you're actually healing it in the past as well: shifting the energy that created that memory, and the whole future you have access to from here. The ripple runs both directions.
You don't have to fully believe this yet
This is one of the more mind-bending ideas in energy healing. When I first learned it, my mind was genuinely jolted, and I needed to experience it many times before I could really live it and be at ease with it. If that's you right now, don't stress about it. Understanding tends to catch up with experience, not the other way around.
None of this replaces the basic definition underneath it: energy is vibrating information, organized in systems. Space and time behave differently for that information than they do for the table in front of you — which is exactly why a practitioner can say "I can send you energy through time and space" and mean it plainly, not poetically. It's a feature of what energy actually is, not a metaphor for something else.
